ME AND GMC

ME AND GMC

Gurukul. For me, it’s not just a word or an institution but it’s a treasure full of beautiful memories. In 2017 I started this journey, in my FY. I remember that I was crying like a little lost child who got separated from her family and then the real journey started. On the very first day, the rector madam asked the new girls of FY to sing a song and with some strange hesitation, I raised my hand and sang a song. All the girls and madam were happy. That evening was okay but after the prayer session, it was time for dinner. I went to Bhojanalaya together with all the girls, dinner was okay but obviously, the taste of my mother’s hand and the love of my family was  nowhere to be felt.

On the second day, I went to the college and met my teachers. At that time I didn’t know that these people will be an inseparable part of my life. Beautiful, loving, and my dearest head of the department of English Dr. Ketki Pandya madam, for whom every adjective is imperfect (Apurn). Dr. Nayan Tank sir, a jolly personality with a happy-go-lucky nature Pro. Rohiniba Jadeja madam, Dr. Sharmishtha Patel madam, Dr. Usha Makvana madam, Dr. Jayesh Bhatt sir, Dr. Shanti Modhwadiya madam and many more. After one week everything started to fall in its place and we had a New Comers Talent Morning Programme, in which 32 items were there and I had participated in 08 items. And after the TM programme, I was very much excited to do something new every day as Gurukul provided the stage to me. Saptdhara, NSS, Study Circle and many other activities.

Gradually, I settled down in the college and hostel as well. Then before Diwali, we heard the news that Dr. Anupam Nagar, a strict gentleman with ethics and principles is coming as our principal. My first impression of sir was somewhat frightening but after the Diwali vacation when we came, I saw an introduction of our New principal sir and it was written on the notice board that sir has done his Ph. D. on ‘Mysticism in Tagore’s Poetry’ that was the very first time I thought that it’s not at all easy to find Mysticism in Tagore’s Poetry. So it’s not the work of any ordinary person. Eventually, I realized, ‘First impression is not always the last impression.  We created so many memories in LR, Prayer hall, Canteen, in every lecture, in study Circle, Drama, Dance, Music everything together with two international and one district level seminar, AAA and NAAC. I can say, we left no stone unturned.

On the last day of our T.Y., we cried a lot as we did’t want to separate from the college, we wished for a PG center and as it is said, ‘Yad-bhavam, Tad-bhavati’ our GMC got Shri Dhirendrabhai Mehta PG center of English. During corona pandemic online education was the norm.

One day my mobile phone rang and I have seen one voice Mail and what a pleasant surprise!!! Dr. Nagar Sir and Dr. Ketki ma’am were offering me a job as a teacher in the same college where I’ve taken my education. Since August 18, 2021, I’ve been teaching in a holistic atmosphere at Gurukul Mahila Arts and Commerce College, Porbandar.

Gurukul has been giving not just an education but many more things too. This college has tough value systems, manners, ethics, convention, harmony, and so many things.

I thank almighty God for choosing me for Gurukul, and I thank my family for their support, how can I forget my teachers, especially Dr. Nagar Sir and Dr. Ketki madam for everything they’re doing for me, as well as all my dear friends (Mitross of Wishwood) who made this journey very charming and last but not the least everyone who helped me.
